Divine Cosmos - Reflections on life, self, and the universe.
What is your first thought about any situation? If you are like most people, the first thing you'll notice are the limitations - the potential difficulties, what could go wrong, why it might not work out, etc. You might even catalog everything that could go wrong in your mind.
This insidious way of thinking has been referred to as "negativity bias" and it seems to infect most of us. This mindset is hugely mis-creative because, by the Law of Attraction, what you focus on you attract. Which means you're more likely to experience those very difficulties and limitations! If you want to become a more deliberate creator, then you'll want to lose your habit of focusing on the negative and limitations and start focusing on the positive and possibilities instead! The Buddha, who was deeply aware that we create our reality with our thoughts, aptly expressed the disempowering nature of this "limitation" mindset when he said: "The mind that perceives the limitation is the limitation." Similar to the bad habit of focusing on limitations rather than possibilities, is the bad habit of focusing on "What Is" rather than "What Could Be" - a topic I explored in Never Mind What Is, Imagine It The Way You Want It To Be.
For better or worse, most of our thoughts are about things that we are observing - in other words about "What Is". Of course, by the Law of Attraction, letting "What Is" dominate your attention only serves to attract more of the same rather than something new. What you put your attention on is what you are thinking about, and what you predominantly think about is what you'll get more of - that's the Law of Attraction in a nutshell. The famous Law of Attraction teacher, Esther Hicks, put it this way: "Attention to WHAT IS only creates more WHAT IS. Look around less, imagine more." To powerfully create your reality more in alignment with your true desires, you must get better at ignoring what is and spend more time focusing on what could be. You must deliberately direct your thoughts rather than simply allowing what's happening around you to dominate your attention.
The Power of Possibility Thinking The weakness of the limitation mindset and the power of the possibility mindset was aptly pointed out by Mark Twain when he made this witty remark: "They did not know it was impossible, so they did it." What if we ceased our insidious habit of always focusing on limitations, anticipating problems and expecting the worst? And instead we primarily focused on possibilities and opportunities and consistently expected the best? What if we biased our thinking towards positivity, possibility and opportunity? What if we adopted a tenacious habit of "possibility thinking" rather than habitual pessimism and "limitation thinking"?
The famous British statesman Winston Churchill commented on the difference between these two mindsets when he said: "A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty." When you adopt a possibility mindset, what I assure you will happen is that things will start going your way far more often. Why? because by the Law of Attraction, your most predominant thoughts are your primary point of attraction. Which means a limitation mindset leads to experiencing more limitation, and a possibility mindset leads to the opposite. Retrain your mind and watch the magic begin! More power to you! |
